Community Rating System

The NJMC participates in the Community Rating System, a voluntary program by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, that allows for property owners to receive discounts on their flood-insurance premiums. Because the Commission has received high marks from FEMA on the work it has done to help plan for and mitigate flooding within the Meadowlands District, some 2,300 commercial, industrial and residential property owners are eligible for 15 percent discounts on premiums – a total savings of $323,000 to local businesses and homeowners.
