Construction Plan Review
The NJMC has the responsibility for reviewing construction plans, specifications and details for new construction, alterations and renovations to buildings within the Meadowlands District. The NJMC also performs inspections as deemed necessary, or as requested by the local Code Enforcement Official.
To obtain a construction permit, an applicant must submit the applicable sub-code applications along with four sets of construction plans to the Municipal Construction Official. Three of these sets will be forwarded to the NJMC, where the plans will be reviewed. At that time, a fee for plan review must be paid to the NJMC.
If the plans comply with applicable codes, the NJMC will issue a Certificate of Plan Release (CPR). Following issuance of the release, the NJMC will return two sets of plans to the Municipal Construction Official, who will issue a construction permit. The applicant receives a copy, which is to be kept at the job site at all times during construction. The applicant is required to notify the Municipal Construction Official for inspections as required by law.
Upon completion of the work, the applicant shall notify the NJMC that all work has been completed as per the approved plans. At that time, the NJMC shall conduct a final inspection and issue a Certificate of Completion and or Occupancy Certification. The Municipal Construction Official is responsible for ensuring that the applicant has complied with all sub-code regulations.
