In 1972, the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s first Open Space Plan called for seven public areas comprising 24-acres. Since then, the NJMC has overseen the preservation and construction of more than 100 acres of open space and eight miles of trails in the Meadowlands District incorporating
low-impact construction techniques, native plantings, and recycled materials.
