RIVERBEND WETLAND PRESERVE (Secaucus)
back to list of sites

This 54-acre* site was purchased by the NJMC for preservation in 1996 from Hartz Mountain Industries. It is bounded on the north by the Conrail-Amtrak line, and on the south and west by the Hackensack River and on the east by wetlands and a Conrail line adjacent to the Malanka landfill. Due to the presence of native high marsh saltmarsh vegetation, the site is used as a reference study site by Rutgers University and the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute.
