Solar Energy

The NJMC Office of Sustainability will serve in a consultancy capacity to Meadowlands municipalities in growing solar energy projects for a sustainable future. The NJMC has selected a contractor to install a 700 kilowatt startup solar array on its campus in DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst. The agency is negotiating a power purchase agreement to maximize the financial benefits of the system, and will save $2.4 million over the course of 20 years. Environmentally, the array will remove 1,000,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and be equivalent to planting 136 acres of trees. The NJMC Board of Commissioners has authorized assistance to municipalities and school boards to develop their own cost-saving solar arrays.
